Black Veterans Remembrance Ceremony

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, Jaku Konbit hosted a Black Veterans Remembrance Ceremony at the Tom Brown Arena to acknowledge, honor, and celebrate the contributions of Black veterans in the Canadian Armed Forces. The event welcomed approximately 150 attendees, including veterans, family members, community leaders, and supporters, reflecting strong community engagement and deep respect for Black military service.

The ceremony featured a keynote address by retired Captain Kevin Junor, who delivered a solemn and powerful tribute recognizing the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of Black veterans. His remarks highlighted the significant contributions of Black service members who have served Canada with distinction despite facing historical barriers and systemic challenges.

The program provided a meaningful space for reflection, remembrance, and appreciation, reinforcing the importance of preserving and acknowledging Black military history. Overall, the event served as a dignified and impactful commemoration, strengthening community awareness and honouring the invaluable role Black veterans have played in Canada’s military heritage.
